Syndicate: VideoMedeja Awards

On the Second International Video Summit "VIDEOMEDEJA", which was held in
Novi Sad from December 5th to 7th 1997, forty one videos, installations and
performances entered the competition. These works, coming from twenty one
country, were done by forty women authors and two artistic teams. The jury,
composed of Szombathy Balint, artist and critic (the head of the jury),
Bojana Petric, artist and Jasna Rajic, critic, awarded the following
rewards, on having seen the competing works:

1) "Bogdanka Poznanovic" Award for the best young author went to Sandra
Sterle (Croatia) for her video "ROUND AROUND", which is developed as a
metaphor for women's  patience and  the unchangeability of their lives in
the course of time.

2)The plaquettes were awarded to:
- Milica Tomic (Yugoslavia), for her installation "XY UNGELOST", which
radically deals with the political act, exploiting modern possibilities of
the poetics of the genre,
- Kai Kaljo (Estonia), for her video "A LOSER", which depicts the social
marginalization of a woman in a minimalistically restrictive manner
selfironically and grotesquely,
- Bea de Visser for her video "A BREATH HUSH" which challenges the limits of
human existence in an audio-visually effective manner.

3) The "Sphinx" Award for the whole opus went to Ema Kugler (Slovenia).
