Subject: a logo for the counter-summit OECD - Naples, Mach 2001
INTERNATIONAL CALL DRAWN UP IN FOUR LANGUAGES
To mad writers the whole world over, to demonically possessed artists,
telematic painters, and all men and women of good will:
In March 2001 the mighty of the world, on occasion of the OECD Global
Forum, will be here in Naples to discuss the reform of public
administration and a phantomatic "electronic government" (e-governance).
We - social action centers, associations, struggle movements in Naples and the
Campania Region - are organizing a welcome for these august personages.
There is a lot of preparation to be done, so we appeal specifically to you
because we believe that your abilities and creativity can be a further
weapon at the disposal of the movements in the struggle against economic
neo-liberalism.
The first thing to do, in this perspective, is to come up with a logo for
the counter-summit. Locally we have collected some ideas, a few sketches,
but we thought it would be useful and interesting to get as many people as
possible involved in this task, even internationally.
So, do we offer any guidlines for a logo?
None, except the subject (against the Global Forum), the date of the
meeting (15/17 March 2001), the place (Naples, Italy), and the theme
(e-governance).
Our thanks to all those who get involved. We greet you. Our meeting places
are Davos, Naples, or wherever the Seattle winds may blow.

From: Seth Thompson <seththompson@wigged.net>
Subject: Attn: new media, video and animation artists
Hi,
My name is Seth Thompson and I am the Director/Producer of
Wigged.net. Wigged.net is a bi-monthly webzine that is focused on
bringing innovative short videos, animations and interactive works
over the internet. Our mission is to be a showcase, distribution and
promotion center for media artists via the World Wide Web.
Wigged.net is for audiences seeking innovative alternatives to
traditional forms of entertainment.
We are seeking new media works as well as animations, videos and
films to be streamed over the internet. The deadline for the
April/May 2001 issue is February 1, 2001.
In order to submit, I am asking that you fill out the on-line
registration form and send the following items: completed copy of the
submission form, promotional materials, 50 word synopsis of the
piece, bio, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Works submitted
should be on VHS (NTSC), cd-rom, 3.5" floppy disk or zip disk. The
reason for all this information is that if we accept your piece we
may also want to do a profile on you and your work. Please do not
send content over the internet. It will only be received if sent via
snail mail.
Please visit http://www.wigged.net and go to the "submit media" page
to fill out our on-line registration form.
If you know of anyone else who might be interested in submitting
their work, please forward this e-mail to them. Thank you.
Best wishes,
Seth Thompson
Sincere apologies to anyone who receives this twice, or receives this in error.
Please Note: To remove your e-mail address from my list simply reply
to this message and type the word "unsubscribe" in the Subject field
at the top of your reply. If you have more than one e-mail address
through which you might be receiving this, please be sure to list
them all.

skrreeeap!

Oh, you're reading this already? Yipes!
Hang on. . . give me . . . about 30 more seconds
before you visit the new collection of ideas
at ebr
electronic book review 11
http://www.altx.com/ebr/ebr11/index.html
We've just about got it all dug out . . .
Sorry to make you wait . . .
We had ebr 11,
called "webarts,"
all ready to go
and then the snow started really coming down
here in Chicago
and the damn hyperlinks got all iced up . . .
*whistles sharply, forming steam cloud*
Hey!
Tabbi!
*whistles*
Tabbi! Joe! Chuck me the window-scraper, will you?
The good thing about this issue
is that there's a lot of HEAT deep inside it
YEAH, this issue's theme is (quote) WEB ARTS (end quote)
and it casts that term wide enough
to include Jacquard looms
and
comic books
and
adhesive tape sculpture
and
global economies
and
narrative parasites
. . . and that's the Big Story
. . . BUT
I think the HOT STORY in this ebr
is the FRICTION
you'll find
- -- between Hypertext and Cybertext in Nick Montfort's piece
-- between Daniel Wenk and his reviewer
(scroll to the bottom of "Telling Tales, Shaping Artists's Myths")
- -- in William Gillespie's front-line account of a brutal poetry flame war
("Is Charles Bernstein a Political Poet?")
- -- as Jan Baetens takes on Scott McCloud
- -- in the subtle sumo wrestling as both Richard John and Daniel Punday
match separately with Bernard Siegert's "Relays"
- -- rippling through the single best statement I've read on the election:
Philip Wohlstetter's "The Runoff: a Simple Electoral Reform"
*knocks snow-caked shovel against the side of ebr 11*
The only trouble with this issue is that it thawed
and then froze again last night
(my fingers are numb; I gotta get new gloves!)
phew!
ebr 11 should be ready now. Go for it!
